Great news!
"After these pro-life protesters came to Planned Parenthood, California Governor Jerry Brown, a proud pro-abortion elected official, vetoed SB-320, the bill the California legislature that just passed this August, that would have forced all state universities to dispense the abortion pill, RU-486, on campus with Planned Parenthood being the administrator.
And, in his letter explaining his veto, he even used these protesters' talking points: that SB-320 was unnecessary because all college campuses in California are sadly within 5 to 7 miles of an abortion facility.
This is a huge WIN!
And, it's key for Students for Life as it achieves two of our strategic objectives: keeping Planned Parenthood off of campuses and ending student abortions.
In short, thousands of lives will be saved and spared and Planned Parenthood’s advance has been halted.
Our arguments were so convincing that even pro-choice students were signing our petitions against the legislation.
This victory perfectly shows us why our nation needs Students for Life and this Pro-LIfe Generation.
For months, we asked others to join in the battle in California. But, everyone thought it was a lost cause…hopeless. But this generation was determined and had grit.
So, they trained and mobilized everywhere they could. They took the 90+ Students for Life groups they’ve launched and helped grow in California and put them into action on their campuses and in their communities.
Leaders like Bernadette Tasy, president of our Students for Life group at Fresno State, planned extra events on campuses and took time off of school and work to join them in Sacramento to lobby and testify. She even wrote op-eds to her local papers and appeared on Fox News a couple of times to speak out.
Students for Life didn’t give up.
And neither did the host on this video, Ester, as she gave sacrificially to this fight and prayed prayers of protection over our team and student leaders.
Thank you. Thank you for making this possible.
Now, the battle isn’t over. In fact, last night pro-abortion legislators already vowed to re-introduce this legislation when the California legislature comes back into session in 2019. And we already know they are talking with their pals in other states to do the same.
Now is the time for us not to rest easy, but to get to work."
For Life,
President, Students for Life of America
